Our Founder

John Glover is a dealer of used and rare books. He owns Glover’s Bookery in Lexington—Kentucky’s oldest independent bookstore. His wife is an electrical engineer, and together, they ensure Big Rock is always a unique destination.

About the Cabin

Big Rock is a log cabin with a large front porch and stone chimney. It sits on a terrace shared by 2 massive stone blocks the size of the cabin under a 40-foot sandstone cliff; 50 feet out the side door up at the cliff face is a large rock shelter with a campfire and chairs for 10 people. All of this is on the property and for your private use. Inside the cabin, it is all wood, not a scrap of sheetrock or paint. The cabin is fully decorated with real American and international folk art from my own collection. Enjoy the great room with comfortable leather chairs in front of a stone fireplace. Off the great room is a galley-style kitchen, fully furnished with everything you need. Bar style counter sits 6 and a round dining table for 4. Also off the great room is a full bathroom and a master bedroom with a queen bed. Upstairs is a large loft with 2 queen beds, a jacuzzi, sink, and toilet closet. In the great room, the sleeper sofa makes an additional queen bed

Transforming the Cabin

John bought Big Rock when it was only a log shell with loft and walls.

Over the years, he has built a fully furnished galley kitchen with a dining bar for six people—and it’s all custom-made from the same wood used to build the cabin. He installed an updated bathroom with tile floor, enclosed shower/tub, and modern sink and toilet.

Big Rock is decorated with original art from John's own collection of American Folk Art and Tribal Art.
